Eight is Great…

November 29, 2014

Well if only this family could have relaxed and had a little fun with their session (snort)! Really, these guys were a joy to spend time with, it was truly heartwarming to see just how much fun they had together, and how much they love and enjoy each others company. What a fun session!!

Strength & Beauty…

November 17, 2014

Well that was a change from Family Christmas Card sessions!!! I got to spend the afternoon with a bunch of tough, gorgeous women yesterday. Took a little drive to a gym in Bomanville to meet up with a group of ladies gearing up for competition next weekend….that is a lot of dedication and focus I witnessed. Thanks to these 2 ladies for allowing me to share some of their images. Good luck to all of you. And by the way, I am NEVER touching a carb again, after seeing that:)

Wow, did that year ever go by fast!! This little sweetheart was nothing but smiles the entire time, even in the freezing outdoors. What a little trooper.

What a treat I had yesterday….twin newborn boys!!! And they were a DREAM! Newborn sessions can be quite long, with lots of feeding, changing, settling and getting baby to sleep, so with two of them coming, I expected to be in for a marathon session. These little guys surprised me and were so great to work with, sleeping soundly, curling up with each other, and I didn’t get peed on once (Dad got that honour:). And with Dad being quite the hunter, we of course had to include a hunting theme into some of the portraits. I also have to thank my wonderful assistant and heater holder, Madison, who joined me for the day for ‘take a student to work day’. It was a long day for her but she was a huge help and I enjoyed having the extra hands.

I love the naked curled ¬†ones….exactly how they would have been curled up inside Mom, just weeks ago.

Reality Check…

November 4, 2014

So I feel it’s time to come clean, to tell the truth about what getting a family photo is really about:) When you see an image of a young family, sitting close, smiling sweetly…it gives a sense of calm, peace and order. I don’t think I have ever had a session that was all those things….it’s chaotic, it’s loud, it most times includes me bribing them, it’s chasing little ones and making loud noises to get their attention, and hopefully, a smile. I know many parents worry that they aren’t going to end up with that peaceful image, but that’s my job, and I enjoy the challenge. So parents, don’t worry, your kids are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing..being kids, and you wouldn’t want images of anything else, but their true selves. And in one of those many frames I shoot, there will be that fraction of a second, that it all comes together to capture their beautiful personality.

I have been so fortunate to watch this family grow over many years, from 3 to a fun loving 6! Thanks for another great (cold and quick) session. It was wonderful to hang out with you.
